Hopes of securing funding for Swan Hill irrigation upgrade

Hopes of securing funding for Swan Hill irrigation upgrade

Goulburn Murray Water (GMW) says it's a quarter of the way through the $2 billion Swan Hill Modernisation Project, which will improve water supply to irrigators.A northern Victorian water authority says it plans to have the business case for a major irrigation upgrade finalised by the end of the year.
The works centres on the Little Murray Weir, the Tyntynder Flats area, and the number nine channel running through the centre of Swan Hill.
GMW's George Warne says the water authority will approach the Commonwealth for funding after the current consultation phase.
"The aim is by the end of the year to have a business case put together, that we can go to the Commonwealth Government and say okay, nominally you put some money aside, we think we've got a project that's a goer, and we think with your funding, and with the standard connections agreements, we can figure this district and come up with a situation that's viable for the active agriculture and for the irrigation water providers."
